When Damari Mobley attended a community laptop distribution event, he wasn’t expecting a life change. He was searching for a device—something to help him apply for jobs, continue his education, and regain stability. What he found was something more.
While getting support from Digital Navigator Riley, Damari asked a simple but bold question: “Are you hiring?” He’d watched how the CDE team worked, how they treated people, and he wanted to be a part of it.
“I was there for a laptop, but I liked watching how the CDE helped people. I thought, this is a company I’d like to be a part of.”

Seeing the Potential
For Riley, who had only recently joined the CDE team himself, Damari’s curiosity stood out. “What struck me most was how earnest he was,” Riley shared. “He wasn’t just looking for a job—he genuinely wanted to help. You could see that right away.”
Riley connected Damari with CDE staff, who encouraged him to apply. Just a few months later, Damari joined the team as a Digital Navigator through a partnership with Literacy Minnesota and AmeriCorps.
Riley didn’t know if he’d ever see Damari again—until their paths crossed during orientation. “We walked into that first meeting, and there he was. I recognized him instantly,” Riley said.
“Seeing someone go from receiving support to becoming part of the mission—it was incredible.”

Giving Back, Every Day

Now in his role as a Digital Navigator, Damari helps others navigate the very challenges he once faced. Whether it’s device access, tech support, or skill-building, he brings lived experience and empathy to every interaction.
“It feels amazing,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to give back to the community, and now I get to. Seeing the relief on someone’s face when they get help—that just warms my heart.”
Damari's story is a reminder that CDE's model isn't just about access— it’s about creating a cycle of community leadership.
