Setting off on the Right Foot: A New and Improved Partner Onboarding Experience

Partnership is at the core of everything the CDE does. One of our main goals is to bring together partner organizations, many of which are already doing excellent work, and find ways to complement and augment their work.

Achieving this level of cohesion within the ecosystem requires clear expectations on both sides and some standard operating procedures that are put in place from the start. Thus, the Policy and Advocacy Workstream has taken time this year to develop a framework for engaging and onboarding partner organizations, to streamline the partnering process while creating a better experience for those new to the CDE.

A lot of thought went into developing this framework, including:

Different models of engagement. This framework has been developed in recognition that there are different ways for partner organizations to engage with us and each other. For example, some organizations might co-organize events and engage with us deeply, while others might be more interested in sharing data and information for the time being. By recognizing these different models for engagement, we have made it much easier for partner organizations to figure out how to engage with us most fruitfully.

Automating when needed. Automation is also playing a role in onboarding. For example, when a partner organization fills out an engagement form, that form automatically connects them to an orientation calendar so that they can schedule a time that works for them—and that gets the participants engaged sooner.

The future. Rolling out this new framework now, at the top of the new fiscal year, will help to greatly expand the number of partners in the ecosystem while also ensuring that we are engaging each and every partner with the appropriate model, given their commitment. We have already gauged the interest of roughly 13 potential partner organizations, and look forward to seeing how the new onboarding experience benefits them and the collaboration moving forward.
